At the beginning of the Third Awakening, a Catholic parish was established in Bārta, creating a need for a church to hold services. Therefore, in the early 1990s, the most active Catholics approached the local government with this issue, prompting the Bārta parish leadership to initiate discussions with the parish priest about founding a parish in Bārta. The parish was established, and initially, services were held at the Bārta Cultural Center, later moving to the premises of the Bārta Museum. Originally, the construction of a chapel in Bārta was planned. However, thanks to the efforts of two parish members, Marija Ceriņa and Ērika Frišmane, support was secured from the parish, the bishop, and the local government to transform the chapel project into the construction of a church. On July 6, 2002, Bishop Vilhelms Lapelis of the Diocese of Liepāja consecrated the church in Bārta, dedicating it to the honor of the Resurrection of Christ.
