Krūtes-Bārtas Church is a state-recognized architectural monument and one of the few unique historical wooden churches in Latvia.
Originally built in 1642 under the leadership of the von Butler family, it was a small log-cabin church with wooden cladding. In 1832, it was reconstructed in the mannerist style while preserving its unique historical charm. During World War II, the church's tower was destroyed, but it was rebuilt with bricks after the war.
The interior of the church is an outstanding art monument. Particularly noteworthy is the 17th-century altar, the ornately designed pulpit, and the altar painting "Christ on the Cross," the author of which is unknown. Near the church, there are old German baronial graves, which indicate its connection with the region's history.
In 2012, the restoration of the church began with the support of the German government, the Baltic-German Fund, the Latvian state, and the church congregation. During the restoration, the roof and foundation were repaired, supporting structures were reinforced, drainage systems were installed, and the interior and altar painting were restored.
Krūtes-Bārtas Church is a unique cultural heritage monument that invites visitors to explore Latvia's rich architectural and artistic heritage.
