Among the churches of Kurzeme, the Ziemupe Evangelical Lutheran Church stands out with its modest size (25 x 11 meters) and architectural simplicity, as it does not even have a bell tower (possibly influenced by the once-imposed restriction on building tall and misleading landmarks near shipping routes). Initially, the church was made of wood, and its altar, created in 1684, is one of the earliest examples of decorative sculpture with developed Baroque features. Thus, its wood carvings and paintings hold an important place in the overview of Kurzeme's decorative art. The stone building was constructed in 1748. The church houses the most notable harmonium built by the Liepaja-based musician and instrument maker Jūris Bokums in the 1920s. It was received as a gift and has been restored, continuing to serve the Ziemupe congregation well to this day.
