Nature trail in Dunika bog

REPAIR WORKS ARE CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE ON THE DUNIKA BOG TRAIL. During the repair works, the trail will not be closed, however, visiting it is not recommended for safety reasons.

In Dunika parish, one of the most surprising places is the Dunika moor, which is crossed by a boardwalk built by the "Latvijas valsts mežu" with several rest areas. On the southern side of the bog, there is a grove of Lukne hornbeams. This is the only place in Latvia where common hornbeam grows in a pure stand on an area of 11 ha. In Lukne, it has reached the extreme northwestern limit of its distribution. According to local residents, a tank has sunk in the bog, but no one has yet managed to find it.
