An important place in Latvia, where migrating birds and bats are caught and ringed during migration. Bird migration has been studied since 1966, and bat migration since 1986. According to Oskars Keiš, a leading researcher at LU, "Pape is unique, because the so-called bottle-neck effect is observed here, when the stream of birds and bats migrating to the south-west is concentrated in a narrow strip of land between the Baltic Sea and Lake Pape".
It is possible to visit from mid-August to the end of October.
