Dzinteres Mound
The rhyming chronicle tells that in 1261, during the Crusaders' campaign to Kursa, during the Battle of Dzinteres, the Crusaders besieged the Dzinteres Castle guarded by Žemaish mercenaries and set fire to the firewood piled in the moat. All defenders of the castle, who did not want to surrender to the force, perished in the flames. The attackers killed all its defenders, including boys over the age of eleven and women who did not want to plead for their lives, as well as children. The seizure of these lands and the murders of the inhabitants took place on the orders of Bishop Albert, by the hands of the Order of the Brothers of the Sword.
