The church was built by the same Otto Ernst de Rappe who built the Old Castle church. From 1626 to 1742, there was a wooden church in this place, and in 1742 a stone church was built. The church has an interesting history, as both Catholics and Lutherans have fought over which denomination the church will belong to.
