Sculpture "Akmens laiva"
Dzintaru iela 2E, Pāvilosta
The idea behind the sculpture “Stone boat” is based on historical facts about how stones from the Saka fields were transported from the Port of Pāvilosta to Liepāja to be used in the construction of the foundations of the Liepāja Naval Port, the construction of which began in 1893. Pāvilosta flourished and developed as a town thanks to the fieldstones from Saka.
26 years ago – during the celebration of Pāvilosta’s 120th anniversary – a foundation stone for the sculptor Pauls Jaunzems’ sculpture “BOAT” was laid on the port promenade. However, the project was not further implemented.
Thanks to the initiative of the Pāvilosta Cultural and Historical Environmental Center association, the idea of installing the sculpture was realized in 2025.
