Dunikas Mire Trail

One of the most surprising places in the Dunikas Parish is the Dunikas Mire, which is crossed by a boardwalk trail created by "Latvian State Forests," featuring several rest areas. On the southern side of the swamp grows the Lukne hornbeam grove. This is the only place in Latvia where common hornbeam grows in pure stands, covering an area of 11 hectares. In Lukne, it has reached the farthest northwestern boundary of its distribution. According to local legends, there is a tank submerged in the swamp, but no one has yet managed to find it.
