The mill in the center of Rucava was built in 1937 and until the 1960s was an important place for grain processing for farmers in the vicinity of Rucava (then Paurupe) village. During its operation, this place was also called the "palace of light", because the electricity produced by the steam locomotive supplied not only the mill, but also a part of Paurupe village. In later years, a warehouse for mechanical workshops was installed in the building, which operated until the 90s.
In 2020, after the reconstruction of the building, an exposition was created in it, which allows you to get an insight into the cultural heritage of the Rucava region. The extensive collection of musical instruments of the folk musician Jānis Pūkis can also be viewed there.
The premises are suitable for various cultural events and artists' exhibitions.
On the first floor of the building there is a tourist information center that provides information about the current offer in the region. You can also buy souvenirs with local symbols there.
Tourist brochures about the Liepāja region are also available in a small information box near the "Centra dzirnāvī". Open, take, and tour!
