NATURE PARK "BERNĀTI"

PĀVILOSTA PROMENADE

This place is perfectly suited for leisurely family walks or a peaceful getaway for two, watching the fishing boats moored in the harbor and elegant sailing yachts, feeling the cool, salty sea breeze or enjoying the gentle touch of the sun.

During your walk, be sure to visit the Pāvilosta Local History Museum, where you can step into the role of a fisherman and, using 3D glasses, take part in herring and lamprey fishing. Continue your stroll along the North and South piers of Pavilosta.

After your walk, stop by one of the local restaurants or cafés and truly enjoy your time off.

AIZPUTE HISTORIC TOWN

Aizpute is one of the oldest towns in Latvia, located on the right bank of the Tebra River. The oldest part of the town once lay between today’s Atmodas, Jāņa, and Katoļu streets, later expanding toward Jelgavas, Kalvenes, and Kuldīgas streets.

Cobblestone streets wind up and down through the 13th–19th century Old Town, following the curves of the Tebra River and coming back to life today. Enjoy wine tastings in the castle cellar and views of St. John’s Church.

Visit the smallest exhibition hall, climb the Aizpute Water Tower for a panoramic view of the town, explore local history at the Aizpute Local History Museum, and see the ruins of the Aizpute Livonian Order Castle.

ĀLANDE RIVER WALKING TRAIL

The Ālande River Walking Trail starts near the medieval castle of Grobiņa and stretches for 3 km along the winding banks of the Ālande River. Like time itself, the river flows through legends and stories that visitors can discover along the trail with the help of informative panels and engaging interactive elements.

When visiting Grobiņa, be sure to explore the Ālande River Walking Trail, stroll along the Grobiņa town promenade “The Ancient Coast of Jūrpils”, visit the Zenta Mauriņa Memorial Room, and discover the Grobiņa Archaeological Ensemble — a unique pre-Viking Scandinavian and Curonian heritage site.

KAZDANGA MANOR PARK

Kazdanga Manor Park is one of the largest and dendrologically richest manor parks in Latvia, featuring walking trails, cycling paths, wooden sculptures, and picturesque bridges. Visitors can also enjoy a pontoon walkway across Lake Dzirnavezers and a scenic observation tower.

In Kazdanga, it is also worth visiting Kazdanga Manor and the manor complex with a guide — a classicist gem of the Kurzeme Barons Manteifel family. After your walk, you can relax with a cup of coffee in hand at the “Kazbārs” café by Lake Dzirnavezers or, on weekdays, at the “Juna-1” canteen.

GRAMZDA FOREST PARK

Gramzda Forest Park is a place where nature, art, and tranquility comes together in perfect harmony. The park features a 2 km paved walking trail suitable for visitors with special needs, as well as a forest gallery showcasing 13 large-scale paintings. For outdoor relaxation, there are also picnic areas available.

In Gramzda, it is worth visiting Gramzda Church with its observation tower offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, as well as the Herbst Cider brewery, where you can enjoy a unique cider tasting in a peaceful setting.

Nearby, you can explore Kalēti forest park with walking trails and wooden sculptures, and the Ruņupe Valley Nature Reserve, a picturesque spot for enjoying wild nature.

PAPE VILLAGE HISTORY, NATURE AND BIRD EXHIBITION

The exhibition is housed in a historic fish reception and processing building in Pape, built in 1936. Today, it features an exhibition dedicated to the history of the villages of Pape and Nida, the Pape Nature Park, and the rich diversity of birds and their research.

When visiting Pape, be sure to explore its unique nature and cultural heritage. Visit Pape Nature Park with its wild horses and European bison, climb the Pape Lighthouse, explore the “Vītolnieki” branch of the Latvian Open-Air Museum, and don’t miss the special Pape Ķoņu village — a place where the spirit of ancient coastal life can still be felt.

ZIEMUPE “JŪRAS MĀJA”

Ziemupe “Jūras māja” is a local storytelling space that reveals the experiences and memories of coastal life – stories about fishermen, ships, refugee routes to Gotland, and the surrounding seaside nature. The exhibition introduces plants, marine life, and objects that once belonged to the residents of Ziemupe, forming the village’s shared historical memory.

When visiting Ziemupe, be sure to enjoy the peaceful Baltic Sea beach and the impressive coastal cliffs rising 5–12 metres high. Ziemupe is also an excellent birdwatching destination – a total of 201 bird species have been recorded along the route. At the “ Jūras māja”, binoculars for adults and children are available for rent, as well as a bird guide for exploring nature.

RUCAVA CENTRAL MILL

Built in 1937, the Rucava Central Mill served as a grain processing facility until the 1960s. After reconstruction, it now houses the Rucava cultural heritage exhibition and a tourism information centre. Visitors can also see the collection of musical instruments belonging to folk musician Jānis Pūķis.

An authentic insight into Rucava’s cultural space is offered at the tradition house “Zvanītāji”, where visitors can learn about local traditions and enjoy traditional Kurzeme dishes.

For longer walks, be sure to visit Rucava Manor Hill, the Sventāja River Valley Trail, or the nearby Dunika Bog Trail.

LIELBĀTA SPRING

The natural clear spring of Lielbāta is the largest in Latvia and one of the few in Northern Europe that brings biologically active water to the surface from deep underground. Since ancient times, it has been regarded as a special and sacred place with healing properties.

It is also worth visiting Volzbaha Hill in the Vaiņode area, which offers wide views over the rolling landscape of Kurzeme and nearby recreation areas.

Nearby lies Embūte Nature Park, featuring scenic walking trails through the Embūte ancient valley – a mysterious area rich in history.

DURBE LAKE OBSERVATION TOWER

The Durbe Lake viewing tower rises to a height of 10 metres, offering wide panoramic views of the lake, its surroundings and the town of Durbe. The lake is home to many bird species, making the tower an excellent spot for birdwatching. The well-maintained recreation area on the western shore of the lake is ideal for a peaceful walk and enjoying nature. In addition, the north-eastern floodplain meadows of Durbe Lake are included in the NATURA 2000 network of protected areas.

Nearby lies Durbe – the smallest town in Latvia, proud of its long history and active community. To experience the charm of the past and the beauty of nature, take a walk through Durbe’s historic centre, visit the castle ruins and stop by the local antiquities collection.

PRIEKULE MANOR HOUSE AND GUARD TOWER

The Priekule Castle manor complex with its guard tower is a legacy of the von Korff baronial family, built in the second half of the 18th century and reconstructed in the 19th century according to a design by architect Paul Max Berchi. During the Second World War, the complex, like the town itself, was destroyed. Today, the manor house functions as a school, while the tower has become a symbol of independence and can be climbed by prior arrangement to enjoy views of the surrounding area.

Be sure to see the Swedish Gate – a symbol of Priekule. A short drive away is the Priekule Brothers’ Cemetery Memorial Ensemble, one of the largest of its kind in the Baltic States.
