Castle ruins of the Livonian Order in Aizpute
The construction of the castle-type castle of the Livonian Order (Ordensburg Hasenpoth) in the 13th century. initiated by Master Dietrich von Groningen. Originally, the castle had a forecourt, corner towers and wooden buildings in the courtyard. It served as a border fortification at the meeting place of the territories of the Livonian Order and the Bishop of Kurzeme. 15th century a residential building with cellars and a gallery was built by the eastern wall of the castle wall. In the courtyard above the gate, plaster with a decorative finish in the sgraffito technique is partially preserved. Even in the 20th century In the 70s, the castle was inhabited until it was destroyed by fire.
