Rucava Traditions House "Zvanītāji"

"Zvanītāji", Rucava, Dienvidkurzemes novads

+371 29618492, [email protected]

Although the house has been given a new exterior appearance, its traditional family room has been preserved in its original form. Built at the end of the 19th century, it features authentic furnishings, ethnographic objects, and an atmosphere that reflects the spirit of old Rucava.

Visitors can discover Rucava’s rich cultural heritage as well as beautifully knitted mittens and socks made by today’s Rucava women, which are available for purchase. The house is maintained by the Rucava Traditions Club and the Rucava Women, and it is a place where annual seasonal celebrations are kept alive, especially Christmas and the Spring Equinox.

Guests are invited to experience the traditional cultural programme “Rucava Feast”, offering an opportunity to immerse themselves in the authentic cultural environment of Rucava. Participants can learn about local heritage, taste homemade rye bread with honey and traditional regional dishes such as turnips with white butter, riezis, or grated potato dumplings with rich sour cream sauce, all accompanied by the singing of traditional Rucava songs. Hands-on workshops in preparing traditional Rucava dishes are also available.
