The museum is located in a historical building - the house of the new Pilsmuiža lords. The building was built in the 18th-19th centuries. alternate as the new lord's house. The family of the castle owner moved here, housing the servants of the manor in the old castle. The museum has 7 permanent expositions that provide an insight into the history of the city of Aizpute and its immediate surroundings, as well as the economic and cultural life. A new art exhibition is exhibited in the museum exhibition hall every month.

The exposition "Ancient rural skills" arranged with EU EAFRD funding in 2015 in the basement of the building presents textile, woodworking and household works and the tools used to perform them. The exhibition offers programs for various life events: newlyweds, silver and gold wedding couples, children's birthday celebrations, etc. as well as various workshops.
